Cinelinx reported an apparent rumor that real life couple Jennifer Lawrence and Nicholas Hoult may not be returning for the X-Men sequel. Although nothing much from the article is concrete (unamed sources cited for example) the story boils down to the fact Bryan Singer tweeted “#Xmen #Apocalypse 2016!” that would mean production on the Days of Future Past sequel would be rolling out in 2015 to meet the 2016 date stated in his Tweet.
The un-named source in the article was quoted as saying :“They feel they are prisoners of the X-Men movies and the director, Bryan Singer. They were shocked to see a new X-Men film was announced for 2016. Now they have to reshuffle their plans in order to accommodate a June shoot. Jennifer especially is losing millions of dollars by doing these movies when she could have her pick of juicy parts.”
This does have an air of believability to it given the rise of Jennifer Lawrence’s career, There was speculation if she would return to the role for Days of Future Past after the success of Hunger Games, Add to this the fact she is in demand across the board owed to her little gold statue. Nicholas Hoult although arguably less in demand after staring in Warm Bodies and Jack and the Giant Killer clearly has a niche cut out and could do with that starring role. Obviously this can’t happen if he stays on board with X-Men.
The article also said that James Mcavoy had no idea of the film until Singers tweet likely refering to his interview with RCN TV on the 8th of December where he said he had only heard at the same time as the rest of us. [see below]
This if true wouldn’t be the first time Singer has been quick to press to that tweet button, In May of this year only a week after Joss Whedon confirmed that he planned on using Quicksilver and Scarlet Witch in the Avengers sequel now named Avengers: Age of Ultron – Singer announced not only was he going to use the Quicksilver character but that he had went and signed an actor to play him tweeting rather pointedly “Before he was an #Avenger, He was just a really fast kid. Thrilled to say #EvanPeters is joining #XMen #DaysOfFuturePast as #Quicksilver“.
At this point it is only speculation as all are confirmed to have contracts for one other X-Men movie and this is obviously far from confirmed but watch this space… Or you know Twitter, since that is where it has all been kicking off.
