Starting this week, We hope to bring you something new (kinda) and lighthearted. Commonplace in comics is ridiculous advertisements, so much so that even the most casual comic book enthusiast is aware of the bold claims made way back in silver age comics “Own a genuine submarine”, “Earn a fortune selling seeds” to “See through anything with X-Ray specs”. First up I bring you…
Week 1: Fabio Wields the “Iron Sword”.
Model slash actor or is that actor slash model (I forget my Zoolander references) appearing in a comic book ad back in 1990. Why is it so ridiculous?, OK they clearly want to go for the Swords and Sorcery Conan look that makes sense since they were trying to hock NES games to kids called Iron Sword II: Wizards and Warriors. But when you you think of ancient warrior cultures, Is the first person you think of Fabio… REALLY?
What’s worse was that this was the actual cover that graced the game and not just the ad. And Just as you can date a 60’s comic with X-Ray specs ad’s, This has to be the most early 90’s piece of junk imaginable “Become the ultimate warrior in the ultimate war”.
