For todays article, I was in two minds about what direction to take it, but here goes anyway….

We’ve spoke on the page alot about digital vs. print and it’s safe to say people have alot of strong opinions on it, but today i wanted to focus on something that may not have crossed peoples mind with the argument, and that’s the Local Comic Shop.

Plan B on Parnie St. put up a post today saying that sales have been extremely low recently and basically asked for peoples business to help stay open. New store, Geek Retreat posted today that this Wednesday if any new comic is bought between 3-6, then another is half price. For a new store this is risky, but I can only assume it’s a move to get bodies in the door.

While here on the page, we have to alliances to any specific store, we always advocate supporting buying locally as opposed to getting stuff from online stores or (Shock Horror) illegally downloading. Comic Shops have always been a place you can go to talk about what you love to people in the know (for the best part anyway) and maybe find recommendations for books you would otherwise have no idea existed. More recently they’ve been a place when local talent can sell their books and get out to a wider audience.

However, and this is a big one. With the current economical climate, the average consumer has less disposable income to spend on things like comics, and will go for the cheaper option of buying online.

My question to you, Follower of the page, is: where do you stand on this? Also, if you are a buyer of things online, what could your local store do to make you want to go back and buy from them instead?

Love and Bullets, as always,

Chris
