Each week, we aim to bring you an irreverent look at comic book ads.
Ridiculous advertisements have been commonplace in comics, so much so that even the most casual comic book enthusiast is aware of the bold claims made way back in silver age comics, such as “Own a genuine submarine”, “Earn a fortune selling seeds” or “See through anything with X-Ray specs”.
So this week, we bring you…
Week 2: 1001 not so free things.
Going very old school this week no Fabio,
Do you of want to own free stuff?
Well you aren’t going to here. You see, essentially what they are advertising here is a list of places to write to for free samples. But then why cant you do that anyway, and more importantly, why would you want to?
Whats more boggling is that it claims you can get free “Informative books”. I’m not sure, but would the postage of 1001 individual items not cost a fortune even way back when? In a way it’s better that these kinda cheap scams aren’t in comic pages anymore but then again we will get to that later…
