This week is actually gonna be a collection of random stuff flung together on the page rather than my usual focused and well thought out discussion pieces (AHAHAHA Yeah right) and I’m hoping y’all might take the lead and pick up some cool new things to check out yourselves.
First up. I GOT MY SUPERPOWERS BACK! Yes the champ (me obviously) made a grand return to work after 2 and a half months off due to medical issues, Coincidentally this happened at the same time CM Punk returned to the WWE. Coincidentally the best in the world also returned sporting grown out hair and new facial hair just like me. Clearly great minds think alike.
Last week I was supposed to go see Man of Steel? Well that idea got abandoned because The Last of Us came into my possession. I’m not exaggerating when I say that it is one of the best story driven games I have EVER played. The game succeeds in actually making you care about the characters and by the time you finish the main story you will be left emotionally drained. GO GET IT PLAYED.
Now for the comic stuff With Marvel Studios Phase 2 fully underway I thought I best get familiar with The Guardians of The Galaxy. I’ve been rattling through GotG back issues and I’m kicking myself over why I never got into them sooner, they are freakin awesome. If Marvel pull this movie off it opens up the potential for a standalone “Star Wars” style franchise on the silver screen for Marvel and while fans of the series will already be agreeing with me I’m gonna call it right now that next summer, Rocket Raccoon will be everyone’s favourite character. He might seem like one of the more “out there” characters.
Age of Ultron wrapped up and seemed to leave most folk thinking “Was that it?”
Yes it kinda did end on a whimper and the story of a whole seems to be just a “set up” piece for Marvel events moving forward but I personally enjoyed it. It wasn’t great and felt like an advert for other comics but It was visually stunning at points and the early issues had some great moments. If anything it felt hindered by being only 10 issues long, maybe 20 issues would have been adequate for telling a better tale and could have allowed Angela to make more of an impact on her first appearance.
Finally this week I wanted to suggest y’all check out Empowered by the awesome Adam Warren! It’s about a regular self conscious girl who has a suit that grants her awesome powers….the problem is the suit rips really easily and becomes useless at the slightest tear. The book is incredibly funny and full of the kind of sarcastic wit and pop culture references that made Scott Pilgrim such a beloved hit and while enjoyable for me as a dude, It is a very pro female book with a very likeable lead cast.
That’s it for this week, Sound off below and enjoy the remainder of your Sunday.
