Having technical difficulties has led to a smaller piece on this than I hoped so I apologise in advance, but I will be back at full strength next week!
Today I thought I would talk about one of my favourite Studios of animated films, which everyone can say they at least know one film by them. They are, of course, Studio Ghibli. I have loved them ever since I watched My Neighbour Totoro one night on a whim and was just astounded by the beauty and storytelling.
The new film, The Wind Rises, has been making it’s way around the Film Festivals, with it being shown at the Venice Film Festival just now, then onto New York Film Festival on September 28th. There is no UK release date yet, or any cinema release, so we can only hope this changes as I can’t wait to see it.
Sadly, the news has been released that this is Hayao Miyazaki’s last film and he will retire after it. This is sad news as he has been such a huge name in the animated film making industry, with Oscar winning movies under his belt like Spirited Away. Really wish the best for him in his future as he is a brilliant mind in this industry.
I thought one of the best things to do with this news is to give you my top five Studio Ghibli movies. This was really difficult for me because they are all so dear to me in different ways, but I managed to somewhat bring a list together! They are:
1. Howls Moving Castle
2. Whispers of the Heart
3. Spirited Away
4. Laputa Castle in the Sky
5. Princess Mononoke
What about you guys? Can you make a top five or is it too hard? Let me know your favourite if a top five isn’t your thing!
Stay Shiny,
Samii
