Pretty Deadly #1

Pretty Deadly is a title I have been really excited about, but honestly, this first issue left me a little confused.

First things first, this is a great looking book. Emma Rios’s artwork is gorgeous, and suits western style of Pretty Deadly. The layouts especially work very well, consisting of mostly large panels, but utilizing smaller box panels to highlight lot of the story’s intricacies.

Rat Queens #2

When the first issue of Rat Queens hit, I was expecting to find myself faced with yet another tired, generic, swords and sorcery title.  And then I read it, and was absolutely blown away.    Kurtis J. Wiebe and Roc Uprhurch have combined to make something truly special here.  An utterly hilarious title featuring four loveably debauched female protagonists and all manner of humorous jibes and in-jokes aimed squarely at the absurdity of the genre.
