James Gunn has released a picture of Vin Diesel posing alongside a bust of Groot from the upcoming Guardians of the Galaxy movie. While Diesel had previously mentioned his role in the upcoming flick, he was – until now – pretty much the only person to have confirmed it.

Via his Facebook, Gunn said; “Vin Diesel is a super awesome dude. I can’t tell you how much I like this guy. “

He added, “I hope this [photo] puts to rest all the silly Thanos-Vin stuff which people just seemed to make up out of nothing.”

On the subject of previous speculation about Vin as Groot, he added “He said he wanted to do it and we said we were talking to him. Everything else was people guessing and thinking they knew what was going to happen”

He also confirmed that recording sessions for Groot were underway, and that the bust in the picture was for reference only and that the finished version would look slightly different.
