Justice League: Canada renamed Justice League: United, details announced

In an interview with USA Today, Jeff Lemire confirmed that his previously announced Canadian Justice League ongoing title will actually be named ‘Justice League: United’ and will see the team split their time between the Great White North and… well… outer space.

Discussing the title, which is set to debut in April once DC’s Justice League of America series come to an end, Lemire said “It’s very much a swashbuckling, world-jumping space adventure.”

The renaming came through conversations between Lemire and DC co-publisher Dan DiDio, where “we decided it was a good idea to expand the scope of the series.”

The team will be made up of several existing JLA members (Martian Manhunter, Hawkman, Green Arrow and Stargirl) and some ‘new blood’ (Animal Man, Supergirl and the returning Adam Strange).

Lemire is also planning on bringing in a Canadian character of his own to the team, a superpowered Cree teenager whose name and back-story are being kept under wraps for the the time bring. On the addition, he said “It was really important for me to try to reflect different aspects of our country. I thought it’d be great to create someone who represented that aspect of the culture.”

As a massive Lemire fan, particularly his recent work on Animal Man in the New 52, I’m really excited by this news, and can’t wait to see how this title plays out.

But what do you guys think? Cosmic Canadians, yay or nay?
