The GLAAD media awards, Award which are given to those who “recognize and honor media for their fair, accurate and inclusive representations of the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender community and the issues that affect their lives.” and among the categories is the Outstanding Comic Book award. There are definitely some strong contenders in the list so lets take a look at the contenders;
Batwoman – W. Haden Blackman, J.H. Williams III, Marc Andreyko (DC)
Fearless Defenders – Cullen Bunn (Marvel)
Husbands – Jane Espenson, Brad Bell (Dark Horse)
Life with Archie – Paul Kupperberg (Archie)
Young Avengers – Kieron Gillen and Jamie McKelvie (Marvel)
Seeing DC listed along with the creators on the Batwoman title does however make one wonder if that makes it a obvious choice for the prize or pretty much rules it out given the much publisised issue of DC having a no marriage editorial edict which in turn caused said creators to leave the title. If it is judged on the basis of the writing though I think most folk here at BCP would give the nudge to Young Avengers given how solid the title was overall and the fact that it pretty much spanned one year only in publication.
But who do you think has showed the strongest representation of the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender community?
