I held off on reviewing this series because I really don’t know whether I like it or not. Well, now I think i can say I like where the story is going and the idea behind the main character. This issue follows Hock Malsuum into battle with those damn dirty rebels (whose general has one of those awesome names you only ever get in the SW universe) with Lord Vader’s army.
The characterisation behind Hock is a strange one. As a reader, we’re supposed to like him and root for him in his desire to be at Vader’s side in his quest to eradicate all the Jedi. However, at the back of my head the entire time all I was getting is that I actually quite like the Jedi, and Hock Malsuum is actually a bit of a dick. There’s a few points in this issue as well where Vader acts (what I would think) totally out of character, either as Anakin, or as the Vader we all know.
Art wise, its along the same lines as many other SW books out on the market, while its a good looking book and Guzman does well at bringing the story to life, its still always going to be about what happens in the book, not how it looks.
I’m still going to be picking the series up as I genuinely want to see how it ends and I guess that’s a good thing as it shows I’m hooked. That being said, it might just be to watch the lead character get slaughtered.
Rating: 2/5.
