This is a great slice of what the Crow is all about. Covering the adventures of Eric Draven immediately after the original story (basically the plot of the movie, if you’ve never read the books) as the Crow reveals that his work did not finish with the deaths of T-Bird and Top Dollar.
This is dark, nihilistic, violent stuff but it mingles the bleakness of these elements with a philosophical whimsy, a few characters of genuine moral character and the repeated reminders of Eric’s undying love.
The art suitably reflects these themes, with the space between panels usually black and the dark and dingy back streets and dive’s where the Crow’s business is conducted are rendered in tones that evoke flickering street lights and encroaching shadows.
This collection also shows a change in Eric’s personality, as he becomes less the singularly driven, revenge obsessed lover and more the generalised dispenser of justice he would continue as.
I love the Crow and this is a fine collection for any devotee of the character, anyone who believes in justice, love and that sometimes there are good things in the shadows.
DO look.
Rating: 4/5.
