Marvel have announced today that Dan Slott and Olivier Coipel are working on a new event named ‘Spider-Verse’, which will team up every existing Spider-Man, as well as new ones that the team will create.
Slott described the story – which will begin in Marvel’s Free Comic Book Day Guardians of the Galaxy issue – as “epic in it’s scope”. “We didn’t want to sell anything short; if there is a Spider-Man out there, we wanted him in this,” Slott said. “You don’t want to hold back on any single guy, be it Spider-Man Fairy Tales, the Manga-Verse, whatever.”
With potentially thousands of Spider-Men set to appear, you’re going to need a big bad to tie it all together, and the villain of this piece will be Morlun.
Editor Nick Lowe said: “Morlun is the initial antagonist of the story…He is one of my favorite Spidey villains of past 15 years. One of the things I’ve always loved about Morlun is that he always kicks the crap out of Spider-Man. I feel like Spider-Man is never closer to defeat than when he’s facing Morlun.”
Marvel also released the un-obscured teaser banner for ‘Spider-Verse’, drawn by Gabriele Dell’Otto, featuring 38 Spider-Men. You can test your Spidey-knowledge by clicking the image below for a jumbo version, courtesy of Newsarama:
