Calling all artists!

CLAN Cancer Support, a cancer charity based in the Northeast of Scotland, is looking to recruit an illustrator to help put together a comic strip for their quarterly newsletter. The strip will be aimed at helping children between the ages of 5 and 18 – as well as their families – through the journey that surrounds a cancer diagnosis.

At CLAN Cancer Support we are currently developing a newsletter to be circulated to our younger client group. The purpose of this newsletter is to provide a medium to communicate with new and existing clients on any presenting issues, provide information and also a fun and interactive publication.

The newsletter will be aimed at children between the age of 5 and 18 years and will be produced quarterly with the first edition going out at the end of March 2014 beginning of April. What we hope to have within each edition is a short comic strip (maximum 5 panels) which would detail differing aspects of a child and their family’s journey surrounding a cancer diagnosis. It can be daunting to look at issues surrounding illness, treatment and death, however providing an effective method of communicating with children on these areas is integral to the service that we provide. This is something (funding dependent) that we hope to expand on in the future months with the possibility of producing larger publications to be used directly in our work with children.

Our newsletter will be produced in colour and any illustration should be appealing to children, eye-catching with minimal text. We would provide a brief on each comic strip to be produced and will detail the topics that should be covered within each comic strip. We are looking to recruit a passionate and committed illustrator who is able to show creativity whilst exploring potentially emotive and difficult subjects.
