So in a week that has seen the debut of Flash Gordon in his own Dynamite title, we also say goodbye to him in this miniseries. A series that seen him grouped with other pulp-style heroes The Phantom and Mandrake The Magician or as they were better known from the 80’s cartoon series “Defenders of the Earth”.

Over the series, the group have tried to foil Ming latest plot to steal Earth for the Mongo Empire. The story reaches its conclusion here with plenty of drama as the status quo for the three heroes is drastically changed, and change un such a way that the cynic in me felt was some of the climax was traded to clear the way for inevitable solo series for these characters. Whether this was writer Jeff Parker’s intention however, I am uncertain.

The art through out was well handled and never at any point disappointing. Ming for example looks like every version of Ming you can imagine.

Will Kings Watch see a sequel miniseries? Well, that remains to be seen, but my personal opinion is the we will see the rest of them (i.e. not Flash Gordon) soon enough.

Rating: 3/5.
