Well this one sure has been a while in the making…

It was September of 2012 when DC’s multiverse spanning series was announced and well there hasn’t been much news on it since it seemed. But the Grant Morrison written series has finally been announced via CBR as hitting stores in August.

Accompanying the news was the following statement:

“The Multiversity’ has been a labor of love almost eight years in the making, and brings together an unstoppable supergroup of artists — Reis, Sprouse, Oliver, Quitely, Stewart and more — with a cast of unforgettable characters from the 52 alternative Earths of the known DC Multiverse!

“Prepare to meet the Vampire Justice League of Earth-43, the Justice Riders of Earth-18, Superdemon, Doc Fate, the super-sons of Superman and Batman, the rampaging Retaliators of Earth-8, the Atomic Knights of Justice, Dino-Cop, Sister Miracle, Lady Quark, the legion of Sivanas, the Nazi New Reichsmen of Earth-10 and the LATEST, greatest superhero of Earth-Prime — YOU!

Comprising seven complete adventures — each set in a different parallel universe — a two part framing story, and comprehensive guidebook to the many worlds of the Multiverse, ‘The Multiversity’ is more than just a multi-part comic book series, it’s a cosmos-spanning, soul-shaking experience that puts YOU on the front line in the Battle For All Creation against the demonic destroyers known as the Gentry!

But beware! Power has a cost, and at the heart of this epic tale waits the cursed and malignant comic book called ‘Ultra Comics’…

How safe is YOUR head?

Join us, if you dare, for ‘The Multiversity!’” — Grant Morrison

The series so far has frequent partner in crime Frank Quitely and Former Green Lantern artist Ivan Reis among just some of the huge names attached to provide art (as are  Chris Sprouse, Ben Oliver, Cameron Stewart and Karl Story). With Reis providing the artwork for the first issue. -[See below]

Surely this can only mean good  things, The fan anticipation for this series has been phenomenal givien that before now there has been a lack of information. Arguably this is largely down to the Morrison effect and the fact that excluding Earth 2 – The New 52 has yet to roll out the New 52 multiverse, Which was a large focus of the publisher in recent years.

From the description that multiverse would seem to have a mix of brand new ideas as well as some familiar elements such as “the super-sons of Superman and Batman” which sounds as though it will incorporate the Silver Age “Supersons” characters of Bruce Wayne jr and Clark Kent Jr, No doubt with a  mind bending Morrison reinterpretation [Zur-En-Arrh anyone?].
