Today marks the home video release of the Robocop reboot starring Joel Kinnaman in the titular role, making today Robocop Day! In Detroit, Michigan, at least. If you haven’t heard about this then you’re not alone. The biggest part of the celebration would be the unveiling of a Robocop statue funded via kickstarter. Unfortunately, the ceremony was cancelled last minute because Imagination Station Detroit – the people responsible for the statue – weren’t informed about it.

They responded saying, “You may have heard in the news today that the RoboCop statue was being unveiled in Detroit today. This was news to us! And not true news. To be clear: the RoboCop statue is still on track to be finished later this year, and is still in the hands of Giorgio Gikas at Venus Bronze Works in Detroit, but news reports about it being unveiled today are incorrect.”

As disappointing as that new is, the festivities will continue. Robocop has been spotted all over the city at various landmarks. Robocop’s motorcycle will be on display at Comerica Park where the first 10,000 fans will get a Robocop cheer card after admittance. The cybernetic cop also threw the first pitch at tonight’s Detroit Tigers versus the Toronto Blue Jays game (keep in mind it isn’t Kinnaman in the suit).

Studios released four other one-shot titles: Hominem Ex Machine, To Live And Die In Detroit, Memento Mori, and Beta, which were set in the movie universe, to coincide with the theatrical release.
