Dark Horse Comics, via Bloody Disgusting, have just announced the eagerly-anticipated follow-up to their utterly fantastic 2012 horror series Colder, confirming that Paul Tobin and Juan Ferreyra will be returning with Colder: The Bad Seed later this year.
The new series will serve as a direct continuation of the first, and sees new threat “Swivel” stepping into the pretty sizeable shoes of Nimble Jack as Declan’s new nemesis.
In the interview with BD, series writer Paul Tobin described Swivel as being “the same breed as Nimble Jack, in a way, in that they both have a specific goal that’s entirely normal. Nimble Jack was just hungry. Swivel just wants to grow his crops. Nothing wrong with either of them. It’s that perception switch of insanity that I play with, though, that record-scratch moment of, “Oh, he just wants to do this very simple and normal thing, and so there’s no problem, and… wait… THAT’S what you mean. Well, hell. That ain’t good.” That’s what I love about writing Colder, just taking the everyday events and desires and making them horrible things. Floors always seem solid until the earthquake hits, and you never quite feel like you have your balance afterwards. That’s the feeling that artist Juan Ferreyra and I are going for: just that feeling of unbalance, that your equilibrium is forever in danger.”
We’ve always been a huge fan of the original Colder series here at the Big Comic Page, and I’m personally a massive fan myself, having no less than three pages of original artwork from the series hanging in pride of place on my mancave wall. So it’s safe to say that this announcement has me amazingly excited about what these two fantastic creators can come up with this time.
Colder: The Bad Seed will hit stores on the 22nd of October, and I for one can’t wait!
