It finally happened, a disturbance in the Force in the form of a leaked script, or at least a set of definitive plot details. As reporter on all things Star Wars it is with regret that I read the spoilers swarming across the web. If you want to stay clean until 2015, it’ll be tough, but stop reading now…
The leak broke earlier today, courtesy of Badass Digest, now the most loved site by fans (and hated by JJ Abrams) on Earth. Who knows how the info was obtained, maybe a source cracked and had to tell someone or maybe they found some plans on an old R2 unit. Either way, it’s out there now.
According to the site; after the title crawl, the camera pans to a severed hand clutching a lightsaber, falling through space.
The hand & lightsaber are discovered by Daisy Ridley (for rumours surrounding her character, click here) and John Boyega. They recognize the lightsaber as a Jedi artifact and decide to find the owner.

On their journey they meet up with Han Solo and Chewbacca, who have abandoned/lost the Millennium Falcon and are flying something new. They recognize the lightsaber as Luke Skywalker’s, whom they supposedly haven’t seen since the events of Return of the Jedi, 30 years before.
This ‘hunt for Luke Skywalker’ rumour has done the rounds already on various forums; I gave it little credence then, though it does make an interesting and promising premise.
Badass Digest continues to pile on the possibilities: “…on an ice planet, nefarious forces are building a super weapon, one capable of destroying not planets but entire solar systems…”
Solar system killers have been explored in the Expanded Universe novels; the Sun Crusher was part of the Jedi Academy trilogy of the mid-90s and Centrepoint Station saw action across several novels. It will be interesting to see what kind of weapon we’re dealing with in Ep. VII, though I’m sure it’s insignificant compared to the power of the Force…
According to Badass Digest, the narrative sweep of Episode VII is intentionally reminiscent of 1977’s A New Hope, with the quest for Skywalker in place of the hunt for ol’ Ben Kenobi
These rumours have yet to be confirmed by Disney, and they could very well just be a studio-spun hype generator; however they do have a convincingly authentic feel to them. More details will likely be spilled soon, watch thisspace.
