In an interview at SDCC with The Wrap, Guardians of the Galaxy co-writer Nicole Perlman confirmed that James Gunn will indeed return to write and direct the sequel to the upcoming Guardians of the Galaxy movie.

Gunn had previously mentioned that he would be keen to return, depending on the success of the first film at the box office.

In the interview, Perlman told The Wrap that “They started to figure it out pretty quick when they started getting the reactions from the audience; it was a very positive reaction. Of course they would want to make a sequel as long as it does well and  people are excited about it, they’ll wanna do a sequel. So, it’s going to happen”, adding “James will be directing ‘Guardians 2,’ so he would also be writing ‘Guardians 2.”

Guardians of the Galaxy hits cinemas on August 1st.
