After the cliffhanger of last issue, we’re thrown into flux this time, spanning a much greater period of time than previous issues. We meet many new characters and a brand new city, perfectly rendered by Nick Robles, and the story hits its mid point as our Hero (?) learns a few new skills and more than enough lessons.

It still amazes me that this started as a concept album. There’s a certain way that the story flows that is reminiscent of sheet music, with a story that ebbs and flows like a melody and characters that are larger than life and belong on a stage.

In this day and age, it does perhaps seem a little clichéd, that all of this would happen to one boy, but that’s part of the quaintness of it all. Its more of an opera or a stage show than a book, which harms the story in parts, but over all makes it flow in an interesting way and gives it a really strange feel to it.

Enough can’t be said about Nick Robles work in this book. Every page is stunning and beautifully rendered in such a way that perfectly captured Neil Pearts original concept.

A pleasure to read, even if it could do with picking up the pace a bit.
