Okay, so the status of Daryl Dixon’s “romantic connections” on AMC’s The Walking Dead have long been a subject of fan discussion.  From his ‘enjoyable to watch but ultimetely a bit platonic’ relationship with Carol, to his ‘teeth-gnashingly awkward because she’s only meant to be a teenager’ situation with Beth in season four, there has been endless speculation about whether Daryl will ever find love on the show.

Well, in the letters page of Image’s The Walking Dead #130, a fan drew a parallel between Daryl (who doesn’t feature in the comics) and Jesus, another ass-kicking badass who just so happens to be gay.  The reader asked if the possibility of Daryl being gay had been discussed, to which Kirkman replied

“All I can say is that it’s been discussed. We have very specific ideas about Daryl’s sexuality (or the seeming lack thereof), and if there’s ever a quiet period in the show where he’s not consistently distracted by crossbowing… we’ll tackle it in the show.”

He also went on to answer whether he felt AMC would be on board with Daryl being gay, stating

“For the record, they absolutely would.”

So, an interesting releation in that it’s been discussed, but obviously Kirkman is playing his cards fairly close to his chest for the time being, and rightfully so.
