Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. had a rough start but managed to pick up momentum towards the latter half of the season.
It was announced today that Brian Patrick Wade (Teen Wolf) will be playing the “Absorbing Man” on the season’s premiere. In the comics, Carl “Crusher” Creel was just another criminal until a magic potion (from Loki) gave him his abilities. The result: Creel could now absorb the properties of anything he touches.
Last season in the episode “Yes Men”, Lady Sif (Jaimie Alexander) was ordered by Loki-as-Odin to capture Lorelei (Elena Satine) and bring her back to Asgard to join an army he was amassing. Unlike DC Entertainment, Marvel’s television series is a part of the larger Marvel Cinematic Universe and with Loki’s involvement (at least in comics) and Thor back on earth I can’t help wondering if we’ll see the Asgardian gods in the series or will they continue to be referenced by name only. Although it hasn’t been reported whether or not the role will be recurring, the inclusion of this latest character certainly suggests the possibility of another Asgardian narrative thread.

Chris Hemsworth was quoted saying, “Yeah I got a lot of time. I don’t think it’s just yet, Thor 3. I think it’s a ways away.”
Now this is just speculation on my part but maybe Thor 3 deals with the army Loki is building, and Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. is laying the ground work. Granted it would be highly unlikely that the show would influence the Marvel Cinematic Universe but that is one of the problems with having the series and movies existing in the same universe. With the events of Captain America: The Winter Soldier effecting Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., it’s not beyond the realms of possibility that the show could be used as a way to foreshadow upcoming movies.

Wade is the latest addition to the list of guest stars featuring Adrianne Palicki as Mockingbird, Lucy Lawless in the role of Agent Isabelle Hartley, Reed Diamond as Daniel Whitehall, Nick Blood as Lance Hunter, Henry Simmons as Alphonso “Mack” Mackenzie, and Kyle MacLachlan as The Doctor or Skye’s father.
Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. starts their second season September 23, 2014 on ABC.
