With a perfect five out of five from three members of the BCP team for the opener, Low had a lot to live up to in its second issue. When it’s up against some stiff competition in sci-fi comics as well from Saga in particular, it deserves a serious, thorough look.
There’s a lot going on here – we’re ten years on from the opener, so there’s a bit of to-ing and fro-ing, but our heroine’s unflinching optimism in face of tragedy that’s both personal and for her civilisation continues to be inspiring, uplifting and compelling. The art remains hypnotic, with beautiful and remarkably understated pencils that leave exactly the right amount to the reader’s imagination; the inking sets distinct tones for the different settings, and harmonises elegantly with the narrative.
We get enough to tease us further along with the narrative, a further sneaky twist and a couple of devilishly clever full page spreads. It’s a tricky issue to review, to be frank, because I would love to just gush but if nothing else, it would turn into spoiler-zone.
Worth your hard earned credits, and then some. Buy yourself a copy, and buy it for your friends. Heck, even buy it for your enemies.
I accidentally gave this a Rating of 6/5. I’m sticking with it.
Rating: 6/5.
