In one of the more stranger TV to Internet revivals of a TV Show, It has been reported that The Tick as played by Patrick Warburton (Family Guy, MIB2) is set to return to screens thanks to Amazon.
The original show aired on Fox in 2001 but didn’t reach past one season, in spite of having pretty spot on casting and being fairly enjoyable. As is always the case low viewing figures brought the axe down on the show — like Fox have done with many well received but low viewed shows in the past [Ironically doing so on Family Guy many times in it’s earlier years.].
As the staples platforms of Web 2.0 compete over emerging companies like Netflix, giants like Amazon, Yahoo seem to be trying to put out new original content, with name recognition we have seen this with the announcement of Community being picked up (by Yahoo) or Amazon’s not all that great adaption of Zombieland. But you could argue that those properties [Ick I hate using that word] were still firmly rooted in the public consciousness as opposed to The Tick which was made over 13 years ago and based off of a not particularly well known comic book character.
Regardless, It still seems like a shrewd move an Amazon’s part since shows based on comic book characters are in vogue far more now than at that time. Making it with Warburton is again another good move since he was the right mixture of stocky and believably dumb that works well under those blue antenna.
Lets all just hope everything pans out again and that this isn’t another failed attempt at original programming.
