It’s safe to say that most people (if not all) were disappointed with X-Men Origins: Wolverine. Hell, even star Hugh Jackman has joined in the conversation. The movie goes down in pop culture with a negative stigma, and rightfully so, with its dull story, continuity errors, and – worst of all – the bastardization of fan favorite character Deadpool.

The character touted as the ‘Merc with a Mouth’ is known for his deranged sense of humor, talkative nature, and affinity for breaking the fourth wall, so in principle, the casting of Ryan Reynolds was perfect. Sadly however, after a somewhat promising start, the movie instead gave us a Frankenstein’s monster with all sorts of powers from Scott Summer’s optic blasts to teleportation (don’t ask me why!). More importantly, they actually stitched his mouth shut. I think it was supposed to be tongue-in-cheek (no pun intended), but it definitely didn’t seem to go over well, at least in my theater. But at the same time, I think we can all agree that ‘nerd rage’ would have been at an all-time high if a Deadpool movie announcement starring Ryan Reynolds of all people was made back in 2009
Fast forward to Comic-Con 2014, where the test footage of a “what could have been” Deadpool movie featuring Reynolds stole the internet’s heart. The downside, it was the movie fans wanted but movie execs would probably never make. However, it now looks like the fan outcry has been heard because the movie that seemed to be in “development hell” now finally has a release date of February 12, 2016!
Considering the character’s love for breaking the fourth wall, I hope the button scene references/markets X-Men: Apocalypse coming out on May 27, 2016.
So, what do you make of this whole situation? Is this a Cinderella tale or The Wolverine, which started out strong and unraveled real quickly in its final act? Tell us in the comments.
