Deadline is reporting that Benedict Cumberbatch is to play the coveted role of Doctor Strange in the upcoming Marvel Movie of the same name, and that contract negotiations are about to begin.

After the rumoured casting of Joaquin Phoenix fell apart, several names – including Cumberbatch, Tom Hardy and Jared Leto – have been tipped to play the role, but now it seems that those rumours can finally be put to rest.

Directed by Scott Derrickson with a script by Jon Spaihts, “Doctor Strange” is expected to hit cinemas in July 2016.
