it-s-time-to-get-over-gal-gadot-s-wonder-woman-casting-already-f142c54c-64d3-4cc5-9bbe-7de955682a92Warner Bros. announced the DC movie line up a couple of weeks ago, but the details were sparse regarding several of the movies, Wonder Woman in particular. Let’s start with what we do know. Gal Gadot is playing the Amazonian in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. The solo movie is slated for June 23, 2017, and the folks at WB want a female director at the helm.

Now, Rich Johnston over at Bleeding Cool reported on the details he received from a source on the highly anticipated movie. We should point out that this has not been officially confirmed, so take it with a grain of salt.

Even though the Wonder Woman movie comes out after the release of Batman v Superman (March 25, 2016) and before Justice League: Part one (November 17, 2017), the setting of the movie takes place long before both films. The first half is reported to take place on Paradise Island while the Amazons are at war. When a man arrives on the island (Johnston points out “Not necessarily Steve Trevor either…”) Wonder Woman accompanies him back to his homeland. Although the world he comes from is a strange place, as women have just received the right to vote. The film depicts Diana exploring our world from her unique perspective.

I’d like to reiterate this isn’t official. That said, this story fits perfectly in the universe Man of Steel established, which mirrors the story except this time we get to see how Wonder Woman views our world, it also gets back to Wonder Woman’s roots as a symbol of feminism.

Johnston goes on to say this will be the first of three solo films. The sequel would take place during World War II like the original television series, and the third installment takes place in modern day.

And there you have it. With the slew of superhero movies coming out in the next six years, we can expect a lot of rumors and worst kept secrets (read: Aquaman casting) and this is just the beginning.
