The-Dark-Knight-ReturnsFrank Miller will be returning to DC and perhaps one of the characters he is most associated with, after it was announced that he would be returning to start work on the third Dark Knight book.

Bleeding Cool broke the news that the veteran artist and writer will be joining current fan favorite writer — Scott Snyder to co-write the project.

Currently the project is in need of an artist as it is understood that Miller will not be drawing the title, the source article hinted that Dan DiDio wants the project to have multiple artists spread over each book but this remains to be seen. Likely candidates from the job would be frequent Snyder collaborator — Greg Capullo or DC Co-Publisher and artist on Miller’s All-Star Batman and Robin.

This would seem to be a strategic project as Batman V Superman nears its 2016 completion, the film despite being a sequel to Man of Steel and a springboard for most of the Justice League will be heavily based on The Dark Knight Returns, especially from footage leaked from this years SDCC that seemingly showed a scene lifted straight from the closing of The Dark Knight Returns arc of books.

The teaming of the pair can surely only be seen as a good thing as most recent Miller titles (and general unsavory viewpoints) have drawn ire from certain fan quarters [See: All-Star Batman and Robin, Holly Terror and going further back The Dark Knight Strikes Again].

We will keep you posted on this project as more detail emerge.
