In the second (and slightly more huge if hardly surprising) piece of casting news for today is that Benedict Cumberbatch will be Stephen Strange in Marvel Studios upcoming Doctor Strange movie.

There has been months of speculation as to who would play the role (with Joaquin Phoenix being heavily touted at one point) however most rumors indicated that Cumberbatch was top of the list, which is hardly surprising given the prolific nature of the actor.

Marvel today confirmed that the Sherlock actor bagged the role, in the Scott Derrickson directed feature which will form part of Marvel’s “phase 3” slate of pictures.

Marvel Studios head honcho and producer of the film Kevin Fiege said;

“Stephen Strange’s story requires an actor capable of great depth and sincerity, In 2016, Benedict will show audiences what makes Doctor Strange such a unique and compelling character.”

The film is currently scheduled to hit theaters on November 4th 2016, we will keep you posted on the casting of this film as it happens.
