As the Joker said in Tim Burton’s Batman, “Stop the press. Who is that?“ This is not the Arthur Curry we’ve come to know and love, but that’s not a bad thing. Moments ago Zack Snyder tweeted out a picture of our first look at Jason Momoa as the King of Atlantis. He’d definitely inked up like the rumors stated and he appears with his trident and scaly Atlantean armor – even his belt even features the iconic ‘A’.
This is definitely a different version of the New 52’s clean cut Arthur. He does strike a resemblance to the Earth-Three Crime Syndicate Aquaman character complete with the rough and tumble look – minus the hook for a hand, of course.
What’s interesting is the picture comes with the slogan #unitetheseven, which might be a reference to the seven oceans or – perhaps – the seven heroes. In the comics, there’s a reference to the pre-formed Justice League calling them The Super Seven. It’s interesting that the movie title itself suggests the formation of the league, but will Aquaman be the one to bring the heroes together?
The latest DC Animated film positioned Aquaman as a brawler, and Snyder’s take on the character certainly has the look. if you remember, he called into a radio station defending the character. Clearly he’s going to show us a different albeit “more accurate” depiction of Aquaman.
So, what do you think of Khal Drogo as the King of Atlantis?
Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice is slated for March 25, 2016 and the Aquaman solo film is tentatively scheduled for July 27, 2018.
