After seven months of speculation, Marvel has finally announced the identity of the new female Thor.
Speaking to the New York Times, the publisher has revealed that it’s none other than Jane Foster, who had recently been reintroduced to the title and is currently suffering from breast cancer.
Writer Jason Aaron said: “Jane Foster has been part of the Thor comics and the Thor mythology from almost the very beginning. The very act of picking up this hammer, of becoming Thor, is killing her. Where we go from here is the real story.”
Introduced one issue after Thor himself in 1962’s Journey Into Mystery #84, Jane Foster was initially created as a love interest for Thor and has been a regular, if sporadic, character in the Thunder God’s title ever since.
The full story will be told in Thor #8, out tomorrow from Marvel Comics.
