When we last caught up with West and Susan, they were dealing Eunique to the drugs cartel and were the hunted as Cthulhu and a rival gang tried to track down the source of Eunique.
This issue doesn’t take us much further, even though a shocking twist (though maybe not as shocking as the creators would hope) will be revealed. West and Susan hit the Mississippi swamps on search for alligator genes which supposedly are a key to reactivating life, but they get interrupted by the Gris-Gris gang and Cthulhu, looking for Eunique and West.
I enjoyed the first issue. Not enough to sign on, but as a general read. However, this feels messy and a little out of the creators’ hands. I am honestly not sure that they know what kind of story they want to tell. The long introspective monologue at the beginning seems self-indulgent and Susan’s inner turmoil regarding her feelings towards West is a little too much for a horror comic. Plus, the fight with the Gris-Gris girls and the denouement borders on the silly.
Overall, there’s just not enough blood spilled for me. Now that’s monstrous
Rating: 2/5.
