One of my favourite things about comic book culture is the paraphernalia. I would love to have a mancave with a Proton Pack, Link’s Master Sword, a Green Ranger helmet, Master Ball, Iron Man armour, set of Dragonballs and so on but, sadly, I can’t. I don’t think my better half would let me fill our flat with all that stuff and – as you would imagine – it would also be super expensive.

However, in order to stop me going overboard with collecting stuff, I signed up to Lootcrate. For people who don’t know,  Lootcrate is a monthly subscription service where you receive a box containing a variety of things related to that month’s theme.

For the most part I think the boxes are worth the money, but I know a lot of people have their reservations, so I  thought I  could help out by sharing my thoughts about each month’s crate.  So, without any further ado, here’s my review of May’s “Unite”-themed crate.

This month’s crate contained the following items:

– Green/White Ranger T-shirt
– Rick and Morty 300 piece jigsaw (in a Meeseeks Box)
– Team Fortress Button Badges
– Marvel Ice Cube Tray
– Age of Ulton Car Decal
– Bravest Warriors comic (Lootcrate exclusive variant cover)
– MAD Magazine (Exclusive Lootcrate addition)
– Marvel Shoelaces

This crate has been one of the better crates that I have received during my six month subscription for one reason – the T-shirt. I really like the design of this shirt with the duality of the Green and White Ranger helmet and weapons (I will always prefer the Dragon Dagger over Saba). The t-shirts you get in the crates are usually of good quality, but this is undoubtedly one of the best yet.

I also really liked the jigsaw puzzle and ice-cube tray, being a fan of both properties the items are based on. The rest of the crate was a bit of a letdown for me as I don’t collect buttons, had never really heard of Bravest Warriors (aside from the fact that it is created by Pendleton Ward) and personally don’t find MAD Magazine funny on the most part. I also won’t be putting the decal on my car.

Overall though, I would say the crate is good based solely on t-shirt alone, with the puzzle and ice-cube tray making up the difference between the subscription fee and what I would normally pay for a similar shirt.

Every item ties into the theme of Unite  well,  as there is a teamwork connection in every item, even the MAD Magazine (most of the book is about superheroes working together in stupid ways).

I look forward to next month’s crate which is Cyber themed.

Score: 4/5
