New Marvel Universe Teased – UPDATED

USA Today reported….today (there must be a better way of writing that), that Marvel are launching an “All New, All Different Marvel” following on from this summers Blockbuster Secret Wars event. The event itself appears to be a way of streamlining the comics line of Marvel more, to coincide with the Movie Universe, but there appears to be a few notable exceptions.

It would *seem* that we’re getting a new Hulk and Spider-Man. Speaking to USA Today, Axel Alonso (Marvels Editor-In-Chief) had this to say:

“You’re going to be looking at, in certain cases, new characters inhabiting those roles, and new characters dealing with profound changes in the relationships with others around them and where they live. We’ve challenged everybody to come up with the right ‘Oh (expletive)‘ reveal for their character to shake it up and make it interesting.”

This is teamed up with he teaser image, apparently showing Ultimate Spider-Man, Miles Morales and Spider-Gwen, who’s first appearance was in the tie in to Spiderverse event, “Edge of the Spiderverse”. which would lead us to believe that it might not even be Peter under the Spider-Cowl?! Again?!

Joining the team are Fem-Thor (That we just call Thor), Falcon-Cap and the still old Steve Rogers, showing that Marvel aren’t throwing away *all* of the continuity they’ve created over the past year, with Alonso saying:

“We chose all of our creators to come in with a hook — a big thing has happened that changes the status quo of the character.”

“These changes were not short-term. We’re deeply invested in those characters.”

Rounding off the reveal is Agent Coulson, Iron Man, SpiderWoman (maybe), Vision, Black Panther and if you look close enough, Ant-Man. There is also what would appear to be the return of Red Wolf, a 1070’s era Native-American Hero. This makes Marvel really seem to be embracing its diversity with this reveal; an old man, 4 non-white characters (at least, we’re not sure who Iron Man is), 4 females characters and an android.

Stay tuned for more news, as and when we receive it!

EDIT – 12.:00 5/6/15: We now have the second teaser Image; which appears to show (Citizen V, The Thing and Rocket Raccoon in matching Guardians of the Galaxy uniforms, Karnak, Hyperion, Inferno, Iron Man (again), Medusa, Daredevil, Old Man Logan, the new female Wolverine, Star-Lord and Doctor Strange.

What does this mean? – well we can assume at least that the the Squadron Supreme will have a larger role, could Thing be replacing Groot and if so what would cause that?, plus where are the Fantastic Four?

The Inhumans again look to have a more expanded role but then that has been the case for a while, Daredevil has a new costume from the looks of it and one which is more dark.

Star-Lord seems relatively the same, Wolverine (plural) not so much.

Zemo’s Thunderbolts Identity of Citizen V seems like a bit of a wildcard of the bunch.

Lastly In addition to his usual arsenal Doctor Strange has an axe, the significance of which remains to be seen.

  1. Marvel and DC have become stale, regurgitating the same thing over and over, with event after event, changing the status quo every year in a desperate attempt to remain relevant. If not for the movies they would be out of business. Grew up with the “Big Two” but nowadays Image is the logical choice if you want something really fresh and truly original.
