Warner Bros. and Machinima team up to bring us episode two titled “Bomb”, which introduces us to the Gods & Monsters version of Superman. Here we see the man of steel donning a trench coat much like Tom Wellington did in Smallville, except here he is described as arrogant. The White House even has a containment measure for if/when Superman gets out of hand called Brainiac, which isn’t surprising if Amanda Waller is the president of the United States in this alternate reality. If it is her, she’s is without her usual confidence.

This episode handles its violence with a bit more class, but remains in keeping with the darker tone. It’s interesting to see Superman walk pass a bus full of people, since all I can think of is Superman II where Non lifts up a bus full of people and Christopher Reeve yells, “No! Don’t It! The people!” But this isn’t our tried and true Man of Steel, this “Superman” appears tired revealing a level of torment that he’s had to make some tough decisions. The exchange between Superman and this version of Brainiac in this is the most gut wrenching moment.

The world Bruce Timm is creating is one that rivals the dread and dreariness found in the Justice League: Flashpoint Paradox. So far we’ve seen Batman as a vampire and Superman as a “hardened” hero of sorts next up is Wonder Woman. Hopefully our heroes and heroine will get some shot at happiness or redemption in the movie otherwise this will be the bleakest movie the DC Animated has seen yet.
