In the lead-up to San Diego Comic Con, IDW Publishing have announced a brand new Back To The Future comic series, set to hit shelves this October!

The series will be plotted by BTTF Screenwriter Bob Gale, who will work alongside IDW veterans Erik Burnham (Ghostbusters) and John Barber (Transformers) to write the issues, each of which will be broken down into two separate stories.  The stories will feature a rotating group of artists, including the likes of Dan Schoening (Ghostbusters) and Brent Schoonover (Batman ’66).

Speaking in an exclusive interview with CBR, Gale discussed the contents of the series, saying “Bob Zemeckis and I had been asked many times, “How did Marty and Doc meet?” and “How did Doc’s house actually burn down?” So I thought that a series focused on tales in these areas, dealing with the characters as we know them from the movies, answering some of these questions, would be worthwhile. Maybe these stories could enhance or fill in things from the trilogy.”

He went on to mention the two-stories-per-issue format, adding “I like it because we’re not tempted to pad out something that doesn’t call for a full issue, much less a multi-part story. I also like the idea that if you read an issue and you don’t like it, the next issue will have something significantly different.

”

With the first issue promising to tell the story of how Marty and Doc first met back in 1982, along with how Doc got involved in the Manhattan Project during WWII, it’s safe to say that this title is going to be rocketing to the top of a lot of people’s pull lists this October.

Keep your eyes on the page for more details as they become available.
