Fox reportedly planning a live-action X-MEN television series!
While it’s very early days, The Hollywood Reporter have revealed that Fox is currently closing in on a deal to produce a live-action X-Men television series.
As part of the TV Critics Association press tour, Fox TV Group Chairman and CEO Dana Walden said “We’re in negotiations with Marvel. We’re hopeful we’ll be able to announce something soon. We’re not closed on a deal yet but it’s something we’re definitely pursuing.” She added, “The characters from the X-Men franchise are with Fox on the feature side so we won’t be including Marvel characters that are at ABC with Disney. This will be exclusively the franchise as it has existed at Fox.”
The article added that the series has screenwriters Patrick McKay and J.D. Payne (Star Trek Beyond) attached to it, along with showrunners Evan Katz and Mann Cotto (24).
While 20th Century Fox has the rights to bring the X-Men to the cinematic screens, negotiations must still be made with Marvel for any televised projects, so it’ll be interesting to see how Fox manages to negotiate the messy status of many character’s rights.
