Ahead of next month’s premier, Fox have released a new teaser trailer for the second season of Gotham – a season which promises to see the villains of the city rise in a major way.

While it features a lot of familiar faces (Robin Lord Taylor’s Oswald Cobblepot and Cory Michael Smith’s Edward Nygma) along with some new blood (James Frain’s Theo Galvan and Jessica Lucas’ Tigress), the undoubted star of the trailer is Cameron Monaghan’s Jerome Valeska – who seems to be settling into his heavily-speculated “Joker” role in absolutely stunning fashion.

Plus, with Ben McKenzie coming out and addressing some of the mistakes of the first season, saying “I think we made a mistake relatively early on in trying to introduce a villain and take care of that villain in one episode: catch them, send them to Arkham, do whatever. That was just a mistake. We should’ve never done it”, it does sound promising that the new, long-form approach of the second season could help to win over some of the show’s naysayers.
