A lot of people today recognize Zack Snyder as the director of Man of Steel and next year’s highly anticipated Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. But before those “Red Capes,” Snyder was already adapting comic book properties for the silver screen. First was Frank Miller’s 300 published by Dark Horse Comic, and Alan Moore and Dave Gibbons’ Watchmen another DC Comics publication.
Collider reports that Snyder met with HBO to talk about a Watchmen television series. There’s no word yet if this series would serve as a prequel or sequel, reboot, or spin-off.
HBO has a lot to gain from this potential deal, with comic book adaptions being all the rage, and Watchmen being a beloved title among the comic book industry and community. It was the only graphic novel to make it into Time’s “All-Time 100 Greatest Novels” list.
Despite the mixed reaction to Snyder’s film adaptation, the franchise received a video game Watchmen: The End is Nigh, a prequel comic book series titled Before Watchmen by DC Comics, and a direct-to-video animated feature Tales of the Black Freighter produced by Snyder and starring the voice talents of Gerard Butler.
