Deadline have just revealed that Channel 4 have picked up Arash Amel and Marguerite Bennett’s Butterfly series, with Bo Odar (WB’s Sleepless Night) on board to direct the pilot.
Based on the comic book from Archaia – an imprint of award-winning publisher BOOM! Studios – the series, illustrated by Antonio Fuso and Stefano Simeone, introduces us to the eponymous Butterfly, one of ” Project Delta’s” deep cover agents—no birth certificate, no social security number, a complete ghost. When her cover is blown and she’s set up for a murder she didn’t commit, she is unknowingly led to her father’s doorstep, a man she thought died 20 years ago. Trained to trust nothing and no one, Butterfly must decide whether to seek answers with the Project, or believe the man who betrayed her years ago.
The article confirms that Amel (Grace of Monaco) will write the series and serve as Executive Producer along with Automatik’s Brian Kavanuagh-Jones and 42’s Ben Pugh. This show will mark the second collaboration for the trio, following on from the Sam Worthington and Ruth Wilson-led The Titan.
This is the latest small screen adaptation to come out of BOOM! Studios extensive library, joining Protocol: Orphans (which has been picked up by Fox Broadcasting Company and 20th Century Fox TV), The Woods (which has been picked up by Universal Cable Productions), and kids graphic novel Cow Boy (Dreamworks Animation TV).
