The Hollywood Reporter have just announced that – following a lot of fan speculation – Jeffrey Dean Morgan (Watchmen, The Good Wife) will play the role of villain Negan in AMC’s The Walking Dead.

The character of Negan – who went through the casting process under the name of “Orin” – is heavily rumoured to make his TV debut later in the currently-running season six of the show, possibly in the season finale.

Morgan was one of multiple actors (including Timothy Olyphant, Matt Dillon and Garret Dillahunt, among others) who were considered at some point for the role.

Production on the season six finale of The Walking Dead begins this week in Atlanta.
