Fresh from Wondercon, Warner Bros have confirmed that while the upcoming Joss Whedon-helmed Batgirl movie will borrow heavily from the tone of Gail Simone’s New 52 run, the actual story will pay more of a homage to Alan Moore and Brian Bolland’s iconic Killing Joke graphic novel, and that Jared Leto is expected to reprise his Joker role in the as-yet-untitled movie.
The Killing Joke recently got a fairly divisive animated adaptation which saw Batgirl having a sexual relationship with Batman prior to being crippled at the hands of the Clown Prince of Crime.
No casting has been announced for the title role, nor do we have any sort of timescale yet, but keep your eyes glued to the Big Comic Page for more details as they become available.
Although probably not about Leto’s involvement, to be honest. Because, y’know, April Fools.
