AfterShock Announce Musician-Turned-Hitman Series KILLER GROOVE

This May, AfterShock Comics are set to release KILLER GROOVE, a brand new rock’n’roll crime series from writer Ollie Masters (The Kitchen, Snow Blind) and artist Eoin Marron (HER INFERNAL DESCENT, Army of Darkness, James Bond), colourist Jordie Bellaire (Redlands, Buffy The Vampire Slayer) and letterer Hassan Otsmane-Elhaou (so many of your favourite comics it’s difficult to keep track).

In 1970s Los Angeles, Jonny is one of the thousands of musicians trying to make it big while working a crummy bar job, and getting drunk with his whiskey soaked P.I. friend, Jackie. When Jonny gets tangled up with a local mob hitman, he not only finds a new and violent career, but maybe the inspiration for his music as well.

Speaking about the announcement, Masters said “Killer Groove is a 70s LA crime story about an unsuccessful musician finding success and musical inspiration as a contract killer. I’m excited to be working with such a great group of people on this book. Eoin, Jordie And Hass are some of the best people in comics and I’m privileged to get to work with them all.”

He also spoke about his own musical background, which played a huge part in the creation of the series, saying “I used to play the drums and know what it’s like to be out there playing gigs, although I never starting killing people so I guess that’s where the comparison stops. But like most people, I’ve got a love of those 60s/70s bands. I’m not an expert in that area but it’s my parents’ generation’s music, it was like a background soundtrack to my early life. So it’s weird, it’s like nostalgia for a time I never actually experienced.”

Marron expressed his own excitement, adding “Me and Ollie have been meaning to re-team since we worked together on Sons of Anarchy: Redwood Original, and now we’re getting to do so on our own terms which is crazy exciting. Especially now that we’re in it with Jordie on colours and Hassan on letters – two insanely skilled individuals I’ve been dying to work with on interiors for ages! We’re also super lucky to have Tríona Farrell colouring my covers for the series. Dream team would be an understatement!”

KILLER GROOVE #1 goes on sale on the 29th of May, but if you can’t wait until then, you can feast your eyes on some of Eoin’s unlettered, uncoloured artwork below.
