This year marks the 40th anniversary of Deathtrap Dungeon, the Fighting Fighting single player adventure gamebook from Ian Livingston.  And to help celebrate that anniversary, Livingstone has just announced  that he has written a sequel, entitled The Dungeon on Blood Island, which will go on sale this September.

Deathtrap Dungeon, the sixth instalment of the Fighting Fantasy series from Livingstone and Steve Jackson, went on to become the number one bestselling children’s book in the UK in 1984, and helped introduce a lot of children (myself included) to both choose-your-own-adventure style storytelling and RPGs in general.

In Deathtrap Dungeon, the player takes the role of an adventurer who decides to enter Baron Sukumvit’s “Trial of Champions” and brave the titular dungeon in hope of gaining fame and fortune. Packed with monsters, traps and all your classic dungeon crawl tropes, the player must navigate the maze of dungeons and collect gems in order to escape.

The Fighting Fantasy series recently underwent something of a resurrection in 2017 with Scholastic Books publishing a series of brand new stories from Livingstone, Jackson and several other writers – including Rhianna Pratchett, who became the first female author to publish a Fighting Fantasy book – as well are re-releasing some of the classic tales.

More information about the plot of The Dungeon on Blood Island, including an official release date will be available in due course.
