After a fairly contentious build-up, primarily due to the addition of Lady Gaga and the then-unsubstantiated rumours that it would be a *gasp* musical. Those rumours have since been proven true, with those who have been able to see an early cut of director Todd Phillips’ sequel describing it as “leaning heavily towards being ‘mostly a jukebox musical’, as it integrates at least 15 reinterpretations of very well-known songs.”

While the first trailer doesn’t showcase any of the actual songs, there’s clearly a real flamboyance to some of the scenes and what looks like another powerhouse performance from Joaquin Phoenix, who won the Best Actor Oscar for his performance as Arthur Fleck back in 2020.
