Ahead of its release this December, Warner Bros. Animation have released some first look images from The Lord of the Rings: The War of the Rohirrim, the upcoming animated movie starring Brian Cox as Helm Hammerhand, the legendary King of Rohan.

The upcoming film is set around 200 years before the events of the original film trilogy and follows the legendary monarch – who erected Helm’s Deep – defending his kingdom against an army of Dunlendings.

Cox will be joined in the voice cast by Miranda Otto, who will reprise her role as Éowyn, the shield maiden of Rohan from The Lord of the Rings movie trilogy and will narrate the new movie. Additionally, Gaia Wise will voice Hèra, Helm’s tomboy-ish daughter, Luke Pasqualino will voice Wulf, the ruthless leader of the Dunlendings, and Laurence Ubong Williams will play Fréaláf Hildeson, Helm’s nephew and successor to the throne of Rohan.

Directed by Kenji Kamiyama from a screenplay by Phoebe Gittins and Arty Papageorgiou, The Lord of the Rings: The War of the Rohirrim hits cinemas on December 13, 2024.
