Steamforged Games have just unveiled details of the latest Epic Encounter sets in the form of Circle of the Demon Prince and Bridge of the Duergar Cult, both of which are available to pre-order now!

For those new to SFG’s Epic Encounters, they essentially serve as self-contained 5e adventures, each packed with detailed miniatures, double-sided maps, and a booklet containing scenarios, encounters and stat blocks for all of the creatures included. It’s a great way for new DMs to give their players some interesting new encounters to deal with without having to do a lot of the tricky creation themselves, and each of the sets are released in tandem, effectively serving as a ‘let’s battle the henchmen and the underboss’ box and a ‘omg it’s time to take on the big bad’ box.

Previous sets have features Orcs, Undead, Kobolds and Serpent Folk, with hulking boss-level minuatures like Red Dragons, Giant Spiders, Driders and two-headed Dinosaur monstrosities, and a a fledgling DM who has used several of their offerings to great success in the past, I can’t speak highly enough of them.

The first box, ‘Bridge of the Duergar Cult’, lets your players travel to the Underdark (or your non-copyrighted underground evil domain of choice) to battle a sinister cult of Duergar (essentially evil Dwarves) and their Ogre henchmen.  I’ll admit I’m not 100% sold on the purple colour of the minis, but the quality looks to be of the same high standard we’ve come to expect from SFG.

The second box, Circle of the Demon Prince, ups the stakes significantly by putting your party up against a terrifyingly large demon prince. Fans of SFG’s offerings will recognise the miniature as the “Greater Demon” from their Bardsung: Legend of the Ancient Forge board game,  which may seem like a bit of a cop-out at first glance, but when you consider that Bardsung carries a near-£200 price tag, this is a pretty solid way of picking up what is easily the show-stopper of that entire game.
