Hunters Entertainment, in association with IDW Comics, have just launched a Kickstarter for a storytelling game based on the award-winning comic, Beneath the Trees Where Nobody Sees by Patrick Horvath.
Here’s the official announcement:
What is Beneath the Trees Where Nobody Sees?
Beneath the Trees Where Nobody Sees is a gripping comic that delves into themes of community, mystery, and the unseen aspects of our lives. The story unfolds in a cozy 1980’s town of animals, who harbor dark secrets. Beneath the Trees Where Nobody Sees has won critical acclaim, including a nomination for an Eisner Award, due to its intricate storytelling and beautiful artwork. In fact, the comic’s readership soared to over 150,000 copies sold shortly after its release and is currently in its second arc.
The Storytelling Game Experience
In the spirit of games like Alice is Missing, Till the Last Gasp, and Fog of Love, Beneath the Trees has the structure of a board/card game – while focused on telling a story.
Unlike a TTRPG, Beneath the Trees Where Nobody Sees doesn’t have a traditional head of the table GM. This is a player-led experience, both collaborative and competitive, with interactions and events dictated by the player’s will and imagination, and the roll of only one die.
It’s not a TTRPG. It’s not a board game. It’s a storytelling game!
Game Mechanics and Features
In Beneath the Trees Where Nobody Sees, you step into the paws or claws of a resident of a small cozy town, and each is given a Dark Secret – one of which could be a killer. Each player must try to fulfill the conditions of their Dark Secret over the course of several rounds divided by Act 1, Act 2, Act 3.
The game area itself is made up of two parts:
The Town: where players interact with citizens, earn items or Leverage and confront other players.
The Corpse: where players interact with the mystery of the murder and where dark secrets are hidden.
Head on over to the Kickstarter Page for more information about the game, including the various backer tiers, before it ends on November 12th!
