This is the action issue then… With very little dialogue on the page, most of the storytelling is done through Shalvey’s artwork. And tell the story he does. For anyone that read Ellis and Shalvey’s work on Moon Knight, you know exactly what I’m saying when I say that they have perfected the “less is more” approach. With big open spaces being used, pieces coming out of panels, and a serious Bourne vibe going on, the second issue of the series definitely hits the ground running.

Ellis is, undeniably, a master of his craft and it shows here. With just enough information given to tease the reader abut Vivak and his team, you’re given a few satisfying moments to wet your appetite, to have the last few pages ask just as many questions as you had a the start. You also have to wonder if the sandwich has actually existed at the time, or if Ellis is somehow how a wanky chef in hiding? Give me a Tuna Melt any day.

There’s a few subtleties to Shalveys art in this that were downright genius. the tiny eye roll when asked if there’s tabs on all of them, the pieces of chandelier coming out of the panel, the dust clouds, the “poof” of a blood spatter, and whatever it was that happened at door 25.

This is shaping up to be something beautiful. with the Sci-Fi esque “she knows” at the beginning to the all out action of the rest of the book, there’s something in the works here that could be amazing. Only problem is, I still have no idea what that something is yet, and I don’t know if that’s a good thing 2 issues in.

Perhaps I’m just an idiot.

Rating: 4/5.
